We Are Proud of Indian Women Scientists

India’s space journey has seen remarkable achievements, and behind many of these milestones are the brilliant minds of Indian women scientists at ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation). Their dedication, intelligence, and perseverance have not only broken gender stereotypes but also helped position India as a global space power.

One of the most inspiring examples is the Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan), where women scientists played key roles. Scientists like Ritu Karidhal, known as the “Rocket Woman of India,” served as the Deputy Operations Director. Her leadership and precise planning contributed greatly to the success of India’s first interplanetary mission. Similarly, Nandini Harinath, a project manager for Mangalyaan, showed how women are vital contributors in mission planning and execution.

Another proud moment came with the Chandrayaan missions. Muthayya Vanitha and Ritu Karidhal were again at the forefront—Vanitha as Project Director and Karidhal as Mission Director of Chandrayaan-2. Their presence in top positions is a clear indicator of the trust and respect women scientists have earned within ISRO.

These women not only symbolize scientific excellence but also inspire a new generation of girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Their journeys remind us that talent and determination can overcome all barriers.

We are proud of these Indian women scientists whose contributions continue to propel our nation forward in the field of space research. They represent the spirit of modern India—bold, capable, and breaking boundaries. ISRO's success is a testament to their vision and hard work, and their stories deserve to be celebrated across every classroom, laboratory, and home in India.
